18 years of hunting turkey illegally, that's not even a day in jail per year. Perhaps the financial penalty will be a bit stiffer than the jail time.

Three men convicted of poaching wild turkeys - WTVA.com
Well the MDWFP has caught the only set of road hunters in Yalobusha county. Sentence was a little light in my book.

I don't know all the details here, so I don't know what these guys were doing with their turkeys. If they were "poaching" the turkeys and taking them home to put up to feed their families, then any jail time is ridiculous and is another fine example of why I am anti-government.
I'm a redneck, hick, countrified to core, and any other cliche you can think of. I grew up with 6 brothers and sisters, and if my daddy hadn't "poached" deer every chance he got, we would not have known what meat tasted like. Unfortunately, the legal hunting seasons are not always long enough to gather enough food to do the job, so I ain't too quick to judge folks for stepping out of legally created seasons if they need food to eat.
However, if they were just killing turkeys for the fun of it, it could be a different situation. I don't know the facts. The WTVA article didn't say much about it. I am curious as to why any of the guys would admit to 18 years of it. If I was in his corner, I'd recommended against such an admittance.
I defer to your knowledge of the men and their situation.
I am not supporting the killing of whatever whenever by whomever. I cannot imagine what would motivate a person to kill a bunch of turkeys if they didn't need the meat whether it was in season or out of season. Every year, I kill exactly 8 deer. That's how many I need to feed my family and my in-laws for one year. If there was a year in which I killed only 7 during the season, I would kill one out of season, because I need 8. If I kill my 8 deer early in the season, I quit hunting, and if not, I go till the season ends. I'm not a sportsman, and I do not consider hunting to be a sport. It is what I do to get food that is not loaded down with growth hormones and God-only-knows-what, and hunting is not a sport in any sense that I can understand.
Without more information, it is hard to form an opinion of the guys in this article unless you know them personally. WTVA needs to do a followup on the story and provide information for the people who do not know them. If they are guilty of something that is wrong, I think that they should stop. If they are guilty of something that is illegal, it does not mean very much to me.
While I will respect your opinions, you are breaking the law. We have them for a reason whether you like them or not. I don't go catch over the limit of fish to feed my family. I don't dive 100 mph cause I think the law is ridiculous. I'm not trying to start anything here but killing out of season cause you need 8 deer a year is not right. Also, we don't need any additional information on the three subjects...they were hunting out of season and got caught. That's a fact jack.
Ok I read the article. Wow it took them only eight yrs to catch them. These wildlife officers need to be working for the NSA.![]()
