I'm going to assume you are talking about the pilot light not lighting. The gas valve causing this is almost unheard of considering it is a manual valve you hold open and light. Take it apart and check the pilot tube for an obstruction. I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but you didn't give any specifics.
Yes it was the pilot I was not able to light.
I pulled the gas valve out and carried it to Mr. Chen. He cleaned all the corroded parts in about 35 minutes. I put the valve back on, fixed a pan of cornbread then fired up the water heater. I guess the best $40. I spent all week. I pulled one of the few remaining bags of field corn to fry alone with the fresh peas Debbie picked, shelled and cooked for my dinner before she headed for work.
I've been reading more on the tankless water heaters and I don't like what I read for the price. Water supply 55 to 60 degrees. 60 degree supply water will produce 115 degree hot water. That's not doubling the supply temp. I stuck a thermometer in the sink while I was washing my hands, 128 degrees. Debbie likes hotter water to wash dishes and to take a shower. I laid the thermometer in the tub when I took a shower, 118 degrees, and it was on the cool side.
I'm just wondering what this little thing would do?

Yup what Gary said. They are not expensive either.
A bad thermocouple will let you light the pilot, it may not stay lit. It won't let the valve turn on.Quote:

Let's see here. A 3/8" hose is coming off of the top of a 20 lb. tank. 3/8" copper tubing runs (under) the trailer for 26 feet. The stove is the first in line and takes about 7 minutes before it will light. Bleeding air for up to the first minute. Water heater is last won't light after waiting 30 minutes, more like an hour. I could install a pet cock close to the water heater and not have to wait as long.

Jimmy, it looks like a viable option. Just going to have to do some wiring. Think I would look for a regular electric hot water heater and replace the one you have. That is unless you plan on going to the woods hunting where you wouldn't have electric.
The head of the bed is at the rear of the trailer. A closet is on the door side and a boxed table top is on the other side. It has a 110 outlet in it. The water heater is in that box. Whoever sleeps on that side keeps a warm head if the heater is left on. That's the reason for wanting to go with a tankless system. Not worth the price of one for luke warm water.
At Enid, Orville was camped across from us. Everytime they needed hot water he would turn the heater on. No problem, I can do the same.
Those small 5 to 8 gallon heaters use to be cheap. Not any more. Very little difference in price of them and a 30 or 40 gallon heater.
Just get about 1000' of garden hose and lay it outside in a zig zag pattern and let the sun heat your water, LOL!
We did that at Tunica day park while camping. 1" black hose 150 foot long with 3/4" hose fittings on both ends. Hose and nozzle tied onto the upright guides of a boat trailer. I think I burnt myself. Or well done.
