Maj, i know it's about the fellowship and have enjoyed meeting all the folks that i have met at camp, well almost all...lol. And it's not the size of the fish either, i'm sure their are some big fish as well as dinks in there. It's just that pickwick is not a lake i care to travel back to, seen it a time or two, looks nice . I honestly do wish everyone who does go a great time.
We are talking about a state get together. Anyone outside the state is invited. We can't have it at the same place everytime because it's central to everyone. It maybe 15 minutes from the house this time, 6 hours next time. Some say I won't sleep in a tent. My tent is better than holiday inn to me. It must be some old ways you grew up with.
As an old co-worker told me years ago, "you can't stand on your back porch forever."
Let's have a national fish n camp. Slab gets to pick the place and time. If you don't like it don't throw your :twocents in.
I love my tent. We have a propane heater and also a small AC unit we can plug in!!!
That's what I'm talking about DonDon, I was proud when I got a tent and glad to have it and probably enjoyed camping better than later years.
I love a tent as long as its got A/C, TV, and a shower.
BRM, I have a portable shower, just set it up, fill up the hopper with water and you're good to go. I even have a battery powered TV
I got everything I need, that's for sure. IF the economy ever fails, I will survive
no matter where I been in Sippi, 99.9% of the people treated me great, and I really want to come back and fall camp seems doable this year. hope to see ya no mater where it's at.
we will have the boiled peanuts ready for ya beagle lol
I just looked up pickwick and it is only 8 hours away,,,, uh looks like I will be staying in tunica and Sharon can gamble and I can drive the 2.5 hours to pickwick,,if I am able to go.....
Ps ..stick them snot dots just stick them
Sorry, John, I answered you on the original thread discussing fall camp. I thought I was quoting a post in that thread and quoting it in this thread. Evidently I did it backwards.
Now to answer your questions.
No.
Because they were mentioned as good locations by Major in the thread discussing Fall Camp. Furthermore, they were the location of our previous two most attended camps.
My two cents...might be a bit long winded...sorry. I have been to every camp except one since the first camp in the fall of 2007. I missed the first one at Enid where big foot was spotted driving a golf cart thru the woods. Initially the camps were done by polls, took forever, poll to eliminate lakes down to two, poll to vote on the final two and finally a poll to vote on the date. Besides that, things were ok with the polls. Then, we had a poll for a camp, everybody and their brother voted, Arkabutla won....unfortunately, only Ted, Canepole and Brenda, pstone and his wife, Chris and I were about the only ones there (if I left someone out sorry) The problem, folks voted and dictated our location that had no intention of coming to camp, so we stopped the polls and just picked a lake and date.
Then, it was decided to have a tourney combined with the camps with the lake master setting the lake and place. The problem, people traveling long distances to lakes they had never fished and no one would share any info about where to catch fish. So, we eliminated the tourney part. I personally think one person, the lake master for FJ's, setting the date and place works best and eliminates a lot of headaches from the process.
To me, anyway, camps are about socializing, meeting new c.com people, fishing with folks you wouldn't normally get to fish with, sharing information on locations and techniques to catch fish, and growing our numbers of active c.com members. Having said that, I hate the fact that our group would consider two camps on or near the same date. Would be tough or impossible to make both camps and would reduce the number of folks at each camp. We have had a camp at each of the big four multiple times, which means most of us have had them in our own backyard at times and have had to drive some distance for camps at other times. I might catch flack for this but I'm gonna say it anyway, it seems like some won't attend a camp if it's not in their own backyard and are willing to split the group for their convenience. What's next, an argument over who gets to use the fish fryer that the group pitched in to buy???
I would hope we could have one camp in the fall and any and all that have the means would attend. Hope to see a large turnout in the fall, wherever it may be, and i'll do my best to get time off work to be there and enjoy seeing everyone again.
Tight lines, ya bunch of gewbers!
Very well said Rip!!
I truely do not care were we have it....I will be there......
Your right Rip. There are a lot of folks in nurseing homes or veterans home that just wish they could go to a camp like ours......and they are not all geezers either. We all need to enjoy our time and the friendships that we have made.
Rip, you make a very valid point about people voting that never come to camp. The way this poll is set up should prevent that. Simply make it a public poll. Show who voted for each site. That way the Lake Master can eliminate bogus votes.
I only see 4 that I can't remember ever seeing at a camp
That's my point, "G". Like Rip said, it was a problem with people voting that had no intention of attending. The way this poll is set up it makes it easy to know who is voting. Also makes it easy to eliminate bogus votes. I can see who voted. Most polls just list numbers and percentages.
By using a public format you will automatically prevent most frivolous votes.
Time for a run off looks like to me.
You got to be kidding......run offs are when something is close.....looks to me like Pickwick ran away with it
Concideing Pickwick and grenada were top on the list in the firrst thread the other 2 should have never been there.:twocents
50% of the vote aint a run away either.
Well look at the percents.....its def not 50 50......they gave us four good choices....I didnt vote for Pickwick you can click on the vote numbers and see how everyone voted by the way. It really dosent matter to me where it is but I dont see where voteing and then voteing again is gonna accomplish anything. I hope it gets settled soon and a date set so we can plan and move on.
You know what they say in Memphis...... Vote early vote often !!!!!!! :deadhorse
That Butla camp was a prime example of being about the fellowship because the fishing sucked, even for you local guys, but we had a good time anyway. I think that's the one where you took that beef loin that Billbob brought and cooked it for him. We were packing light that trip cause we were only staying a couple nights and when Billbob saw the big ole pack of hot dogs we brought, he said you're not eating those #*&!@ things! He also fixed breakfast for all of us now that I think about it. We played boat "valet" for Cane Pole cause there weren't any docks. The day fishingpox came over he picked up ice for anybody who needed it. The was the smallest turnout I can remember of all the camps we've been to, but it was still a good time and worth the effort.
I wanna change my vote to Reelfoot.:Rofl
