    Default jack plate advice please

I have a 50 yamaha on a 1652 G3 and want something that will allow me to jump a log, etc while duck hunting. also I'd like to have something that would kick up should I hit a stump fishing Grenada or Sardis...Y'all got any suggestions/experience w/ this sort of thing?

A jackplate is only going to allow you to raise and lower the motor and set it back 4 to 6 in., it wont relese , it is ridgid, motor itself will still kick up if it isnt locked in the down position.

Nice to meet you too! I think I heard somewhere about a break-away jack plate that would kick up in a collision w/ a stump? Y'all ever heard of one?

Put a cmc break away plate on my 40 hp Yamaha last winter and I am very pleased with it. I think I found it online for bout $350. I put it on myself with a lot of help though. Performance marine at Sardis has them. Google CMC breakaway. I think the model is CMC ba 130. It works but it is only rated at 5 mph. I ain't hit nothing yet going very fast but I am sure I will eventually.

CMC is the only one I know of that makes a breakaway. Designed mainly for Duck hunters. Is your boat Tiller steer or console steer? I have a add on trim and tilt unit on my old boat sold by Minkota that I don't think they make any more. Console steer. Have hit stumps twice with it and when it came up it hit transom and broke steering loop, the part your cable hooks to. With that experience would not put a breakaway on a console steer boat.

when you get one put on,,,make sure to use bolts that are about 1- 1-1/2 long ...then get chains cut about 8 in. long and use the bolts and some washers to attach them to the motor so it will not kick up too far..... this will keep it from breaking tiller handle or cable control etc.

Thanks guys for the responses. I do have a console steer and the chains sound like that would keep the motor from coming up too high on impact. Don't these mid-sized outboards have SOME kind of trip so if you hit something it gives????

Not to my knowledge with T/T. That is why I got a breakaway. I have not done the chain thing yet, but I will
