Good idea....it was getting hot for the alarm to come on. Probably stopped up with mud and silt.....Impellor probably damaged also.
BTW, it's best to change the thermostat if you don't know how long it's been since it was changed. I like to change the thermostats every 2nd impeller change. Should be serviced every other year or so on an impeller. When they go bad, it's usually to late, especially if you're miles away from your trailer.

5-6 year old engine. The impeller probably dry rotted and came apart. Make sure to check the thermostat housing if the fins are missing from the impeller. They can stop up the thermostat and not let the engine dump the hot water out causing an over heating issue.
Make sure you remove ALL the fins if the impeller came apart.

Thanks fellas
Your were talking about the boat shop always finding something else wrong. Might want to look at another boat shop. JMO
Yea I agree. I am going to try a new shop in the morning.
In all fairness to your repair shop, most people don't service their engines properly like you didn't. One problem usually causes another. We find secondary problems all the time. It's your shops duty to inform you about those other issues before they get worse.
I can't imagine that a reputable shop couldn't ever fix your problems like you stated. How do they stay in business if they're incompetent? ;-)

Just so you know a walmart bag will block it on the bottom unit and make it run hot . So keep your trash in the boat till you get back .
