    Default Spider Rigging Jigs

What are some of the ways yall spider rig jigs? One, two, or three jigs per pole? Weight at the top or bottom? How much weight? How to you rig them?

I plan to run 6 BNM BGJP (11 and 12 footers) out the front.... My rod holders and reels will be in today and want to rig up for this weekend. Thanks for all the help. This will be my first time spider rigging.

I have jigs 1/16 and 1/8 size. Got curly tails, straight skirts, and some Stroll'Rs... I will be using braid unless otherwise a change is recommended and will be fishing Ross Barnett.

Egg weight in the middle, plain hook on top, jig / sicke runner on the bottom. In especially heavy cover, I'll run the weight on the bottom to aid in getting unhung since you can give it slack and the weight will often times free the hook. Not fool proof, but more often than weight in the middle.

What I use is determined by the depth of water and the cover I'm feshin. This past weekend we used an 1/8oz jig head on bottom, a 1/4oz weight in the middle and a 1/32oz jig head on top. The top jig head had a southern pro tube on it, tipped with a minner, the bottom jig head had a southern pro umbrella tube on it. We were feshin in 8' of clear water and feshing our bottom jig at about 7.5' deep. Now ifn I'm feshin deeper, I'll use a 3/8oz or 1/2oz weight. Ifn I'm using just minners, I'll replace both jig heads with Lazer Sharp Eagle Claw 1/0 hooks. The bite was so light this past weekend, you had to really watch you rod tips very close.

Braid is ok for your main line, but I would recommend 8lb or 10lb mono for your trollin rigs.

Thanks fellas... What do you use to hold the egg weight in place? Just loop the line around it a couple times? I want to start by just using jigs... Anything different in doing that or just put a jig in both locations? Maybe curly tail on top and regular on bottom?

Minner.. What do you mean by trolling rigs and main line? Using a mono leader at the bottom?

He means using mono to pre-tie the rig and a swivel or 3 way at the top. He and I both use a swivel and leave the tag end long and attach the top jig to that, then just wrap the pretied rig around a pool noodle to have at the ready.

To do the egg sinker, I use 4 wraps of the line looped through and around. 3 will work, but it will slip or allow you to move the weight...not necessarily a bad thing. I just go with 4 so I don't have to adjust.

So do you rig it like this.. And have a quick snap to change to different lures quickly? Or just make a loop in the line with an over hand knot and clip to the loop?

I don't have rod holders so a way to remove the jigs before I put up the poles or break the poles down would help with the tangles...

You can use pinch on weights 00G. I have a bunch of them from 3/8 to 3/4 oz and it depends on the wind, current of style of fishing you're trying to do. If I want to move around at say 0.5 to 0.7 or so, I put on a 3/4 oz weight in the middle. I posted a diagram on here a couple weeks ago showing what I do. Just remember this, let the fish dictate what you fish with and how you fish it. If they aren't biting something try another way or another bait. What I did yesterday was with 8 poles, I had the outside 2 poles at 14 feet down for the bottom jig, then my other jig was 18 inches to 2 feet above that. Next 2 poles working my way in were at 11 feet for bottom, putting my top one at 9 to 9 1/2 feet down. Then I had another pole at 8 1/2 feet down so top jig was at 7 feet. Then kinda mixed the other poles around abit, playing with depths and such. I started out just bearly creeping along at 0.1 to 0.2 MPH to see if they wanted that. NOPE, bout 45 minutes later, I sped up to my max speed of 0.7 and tried it abit. Picked up a few but they were dinks so I slowed down to 0.4 to 0.5 BINGO. Picked up a couple keepers real quick, then it's just color and depth since I had speed down. Pink 3/8th head, white body and char tail was good and so was Sats green with Orange and char tube filled with Nibbles. All minner tipped of course

Ole Bigger Showd me a trick awhile back to keep away from tangles. I'll take the bottom jig and go up under the reel, then hook it to the top hook. once you do that, get the slack out and then twist the line around your pole and end it over a eye on your pole, It'll stay. I put all 8 of my poles together, then take a bungee cord and wrap one around the bottom and another bout 3/4 of the way up. nice, neat bundle and I haven't had to retie any poles due to them getting tangled up since

I think DD and I are doing the same thing, but really couldn't tell from his description. Let out enough line so the bottom hook is past the reel seat. Then take the bottom hook and loop around the reel seat and up to the second hook. Drop the rod to the floor standing straight up. Hold the line away from the rod and spin the rod. It will wrap the line above your hand clockwise around the rod and counter clockwise below your hand. When you get all the wraps made and the slack taken up, just slip the last wrap over an eye. The line will stay put and be held to the rod so it will not tangle with the other lines.

To undo, I find the swivel and use it to slip my finger under the line, then spin the rod until I get tot he mid point, then grab the line between my fingers and spin the rod in the reverse direction.

Hard to describe, easy to do. Kind of the opposite of how to catch fish.

That will work just fine.If you are fishing a COE lake 2hooks per pole max.
