Did he have you shooting ballistic tips? Maybe that was the problem? It couldn't be the caliber, since so many deer and other animals have dropped in their tracks to the 7mm/08. He probably gave you two duds to get them out of his stash thinking you wouldn't even pull the trigger. You know like fishing with 7 more rods than actually neeeded.
