Default ANy of you guys run a Lowrance HDS-5?

    Lowrance HDS-5 Gen2 | Fishfinder GPS Chartplotter - LOWRANCE | Marine Electronics

I've got a post in the Electronics forum, but wanted to ask you guys about maps (on the Big 4).

I'm just looking ahead at buying a FF this spring, but I didn't see any map card that showed Enid or Grenada, didn't even look down as far as Sardis, so it may be on them. I did see Arkabutla. Isn't there a map card that shows them all? Or is it one of them deals where you need to buy 2-3-4 cards for $100+ a pop?

Oh, and anyone running this unit, you like it?

I don't know about the Lowrance unit but the Navionics Hotmaps chips have all four of those plus more. I think WB likes another chip better.

I just saw them on Insight. I'd misinterpreted "Standard Definition".

Neon I've got hds units, an 8 and a couple of 10s. I don't think there is any difference other than the screen size. All of my units have the Insight maps built in. The Insight bundle shows great details on all of the Big 4. You can get them without Insight and add map cards, but I would recommend the Insight bundle and then you can add cards later if something better comes along.

I'm just having issues trying to figure-out what's what, but it's starting to get a little clearer. Thanks for the input!

OH, and if you aren't planning to buy until spring, you may want to look at the hds gen 2 touch that is coming out about now. The touch will have the lss2 module built in, right now with the hds5,8,etc gen 2s you have to have the lss2 installed as a separate piece if you want to have structure scan. In the yak it would be very handy to have it all as one unit.

Don't really think I'd be interested in the bells & whistles, plus I'm on a budget I'll have to break just to get the HDS-5. I'm mostly interested in GPS and maps.
This won't be goin' on a Kayak, it'll be goin' on my new home-brew pontoon (hey, that might be a good name for it)

I get this done, I'll be one of them high-class "uppity" Gewbs

If you are not worried much about the LSS Brian. Look and see what the elite 7 HDI does for ya. Should be comparable to the hds5 without the I sight. I was told you could not get insight on this unit but it has GPS and 2d and dSI all in one. Gonna put one on front of mine in the spring
