Question Drift sock vs logging chain

Didn't want to hijack ATM's thread on the sock for sale. What's the advantage of dragging a drift sock or two vs. a long length of logging chain? Fishing in stump filled shallow flats <10', how much do you get hung up on the stumps with the drift socks? I have always used a chain, but with my light metal boat I am open to ideas. Especially with a tournament this weekend with 15-20 MPH winds!!!

Chain is a little better in stumps, only time I use them. Open water there is no comparison, socks are way better. Much smoother drift, chains are jerky and tend to stop you a lot. Chains can be dangerous in high winds with an open transome alum. boat, get hung and you could get swamped.

If you are going to be serious about tournament fishing, a glass boat is a must.

Where's the cheapest place to get the 60" drift socks? I have seen them anywhere from $99-123 for the same item.

I like a chain in shallow water or in timber & stumps but like Feelay said in open water the socks much better. I keep both on my boat

Since I am new to spider rigging and using drift socks...do you have to use the buoy line with the drift sock or can you use it without?
