I so remember the instructions stated a bit size, which worked with the supplied screws in metal. However, I stepped up to a larger - #10 or #12 if I remember correctly, to mount on my boat since the deck is fiberglass. Also, went smaller than needed and tested the first with a screw since fiberglass tends to wallow a bit when drilling.

Use a #14 screw, and a bit a bit smaller!!! Lol
