Default Tricks From The Ole Timers

All of us hopefully have had a couple of men in your lives that taught you some tricks as far as tinkering with stuff and all. I was blessed with 2 such folks in my life, my Grandfather and Father-In-Law, both are gone now but I find my self using tips and stuff they taught me almost everyday.
Today the Exmark wouldnt start, Grenada is the nearest place to get plugs, what I determined was wrong and Tammy was is Oxford but not gonna be back till late this afternoon. I remove the plugs and sure enuff wet with gas and no doubt not firing, wiped em off real good and took a lighter and heated the spark end of the plug until it looked good and dry, put it back in and did the same on the other side, hit the starter and she fired rite off. The grass cutting is on and no trip to Grenada, gonna get Tam to bring me some when she comes in. My FIL taught me this one and many others of making do with what you have. Would love to hear some of yalls, we can all learn a little here.

I don't remember any tricks. But I do recall my grandfather's favorite bible verse.

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
    Proverbs 17:28 (KJV)

My father taught me how to make sure something is square,as in 90 degrees. 3 4 equal 5. Thats 3 on one leg 4on the other should be 5 diagonally. it works on feet and inches or can be multiplied by any number

One time when I was a kid it snowed real deep, so deep that my grandma decided to make us all some snow cream. YUMMY! We was out gettin some snow and I saw what I thought was snow cream in a small little yellow area on the snow covered ground. I could hardly wait to get back home and try me a bite so I reached down and got me a giant handfull and took a bite. Next thing I know my granddaddy beat the brakes off me and told me to never eat yellow snow. Thanks Rees for reminding me of such a wonderful memory.

one of my granddads favorite sayings was if it's not yours dont mess with it, actually that's not the exact words he used but you get the idea. if more people would practice this the world would be a better place.....

Guess I was raised old school way but my dad always told me to work hard and good things would come to ya. He always said if ya want something go after it dont sit around waiting on someone to hand it out to ya. Think this world could use a whole lot more of this right now. And with that in mind I gotta go to bed, gotta work tomorrow, good nite all.
