Back then gas was 15 to 17 cents a gallon for 103 octane so the bigger the motor the better.You could punch one 60 over and not worry about detonation. What the heck was unleaded????Loved pulling into a station for a fillup. The attendant would check and fill evertything under the hood and tires, and give you top value, s&h green stamps and Esso would put a tiger in your tank!Remember taking a trip on my bike, partied too much, blew all my gas money, and made it back home draining hoses on gas pumps in gas stations that had closed.Can't even drain the hose these days!!!That was livin back then!!!

72 Chevy Pickup {Custom even} came with a 305 and 3 on the tree. Drove it stock about 6 months. Pulled the engine and tranny out and went back with a 350 bored 60 over with camel hump heads and a holly 650 4 barrel. Put a turbo 350 tranny in with a shift kit. Blue with a white top. Man Ima glad that truck cant talk!!!!!!:biggrin

First I bought was a '76 Lemans, Aspen green with white top. That was a smooth riding solid steel sled. Bounced it off a telephone pole and nosed it vertical into a ditch. Pulled it out with a buddys truck and barely had a dent in one fender. Detroit steel was tough back in the day.

1966 Oldsmobile Delta 98. Big car, big engine. 442 Rocket with Rochester 4 barrel carb. Had 140 on dash and would do every bit of it............................ Did I mention how ugly she was? In 1968 my wife and bought a new 442olds 400 eng. 360 hp. Man that thing was awsome They were askin $4200 after trade in it was $ 3600 paid cash drove it 4 yrs and bought a new Chebby pu.

Flat head V8 with floor shift. Most of you little girls were not around back in the "Good ole days".:Rofl

A friend I used to shoot pool with dad owned a Greek resturant in downtown Mempho about 1968.The kid had just about anything he wanted. He took his allowance and bought a 1941 Caddy with a 346 flathead.It needed painting and 3 of us thought we were going to strip it. Wrong! That paint was so thick we ended up using grinders to get it back to metal.The body was perfectly straight.He had a place paint it with 21 coats of black laquer!You could see youself about a foot into that paint. Here's a example what that car looked like!Talk about picking up women!!
