Ree's I set my bait casters where you can pinch the line and turn the handle without much pressure. That way you can pay out line easy and if you get hung up or a big cat,gar gets it they can strip line without breaking a rod. I use 15/4 braid and 10 lb mono droppers.
RG,
My late brother in law was a die hard fisherman, LMB, white bass, crappie you name it. He fished several times a week until cancer took him. He aways loosened the drag on all his reels when he finished for the day. He claimed that the drag washers would start to stick if you left them screwed down tight all the time. So I got in the habit and I try to loosen mine each day and then I check them as I set them out the next time I go out. It is a pain if you are running 10 or 20 rods, but might save you a trophy fish one day.
Have known a few that done that as well. When I green carp fish the first thing i do is check the drag. Just got to make it a habit with my crappie rods. Finding myself trying to start good habits, all weekend i was grabbing the rod with the right hand which is a no no for me, needs to be the left. Been fishing real shallow the last couple of days and it helps to be able to release some line. Time on the water is gonna make some good habits i hope.
