In the past the would let you rehab alcohol. Now days however with what you described he would be out in a new York second. If he had 20 years they would most likely "let" him retire

I got a question. I got a buddy that was supposedly kicked out of a branch of the military. He won't say why, but I'm suspecting he has a drug and/or alcohol problem. What is the normal protocol for this type of dismissal? He's had a few questionable run ins with the law and has had marriage trouble. Just wondering and maybe will try to help him.

I guess he's been in 15 -20 not sure tho. I met him 8-10 years ago. Is it a first time offense that gets ya or reckon he's had several chances?

Today's military one chance! Ten years ago, they would usually try and give you a chance to make things right. It's much tougher today in the military than it was even ten years ago.
When your friend decides to come clean with his friend, you can help.
The bottom line can be a hard line to accept. Give him space & time.
If he really is a friend, he will come to realize your willing, and accept your help.
I've dealt with your kind of friend and it is not easy, but can be worth the effort
with time. Time is the hardest part to deal with 'cause you want results.

That's what I've been doing retiredrr. I just call em some and even offered to take him fishin, but he said he wasn't ready to get out much jus yet.
So triton you're sayin this could a first offense? That's good to know in a way I guess. But anyhow, thanks fer the insight.

T-man is right about the "new" military. When I was first commissioned, back in '70, and was at Ft Knox then Wolters & Rucker, the Army expected you to be an alcholic. There was always a reception (mandantory attendence) with open bars, Beef and Burgandy night at the O-Club, happy hour at the club, bowling leagues, bingo, big dances etc all with rivers of flowing whiskey.

Minner, dont quote me here cause I aint no expert. But I use to watch M.A.S.H. every time it came on and it seems like I recall them drinking a whole bunch on that show. Thats all I got, hope your friend does well.
