    Default Bay Springs is rolling

Went to Bay Springs this morning. Way too windy to spider rig even back up in five fingers.....but we tried it anyway and just explored some areas with the 898. The main lake looked like the Atlantic ocean......4 to 5 ft. waves and white capping. Only saw three other boats on the whole lake. The xv860 SeaArk makes a very smooth ride out of it though.

I had a very frightening experience on Bay springs a couple of years ago with that wind. I had an old bass tracker that didnt take the waves very well. I was up in a small cove north of Mcdougal and a storm blew up. I was in a small protected cove with high banks so I didnt realize how bad the wind had got, when I turned the corner heading to the ramp the waves were bad but manageable. By the time I made it to the middle of the lake the wind had gotten so bad that I would ride up one wave and through the next and planing the boat off was impossible. I had the bilge running wide open one life jacket around my neck and another one strapped to my belt. I was by myself and thought I would go down like the SS minnow before i got to the ramp. There was about 3" of water above the carpet in the by the time I made it to the ramp. Oh and it was in february to by the way. The good lord took care of me that day!

Bay Springs is a huge lake. One must know which way the wind is gonna be blowing and which ramp will be best to use for that particular day of fishing.
