If you don;t spoend it now, you're gonna end up spending it. I went the cheap route to start with getting 10 and n 12 foot rods. Seems I have 10's and 12's laying round the house now cause I bought 6, 14 footers after I realized I needed them. 12's will work but if you're in shallow water, you'll spook the fish. Go ahead and bite the bullet and get 14 footers. B & M makes the BJGP in 14 which are good poles, then the ozarks are real good poles as well. The Capps n Colemans are good poles but are real limber. Some like em and some don;t. I do know that all the poles I listed are good poles and very durable. I've had 6-8 lb cats on Eagle lake on all of them and no problems
