Maybe someone should post up a list of who is allowed to fish Butla.
you start big guy and others can add to it
I thing EVERYBODY is entitled to fish Butla. I just think we should only take what we need instead of just going to fill a cooler for braggin rights. I think it's ALL of our responsibility not to kill her just because we can. I do believe that it should start with the Miss Dept. of Game and Fish, but with their past history, I'm not sure I trust them to take the best care of our resources. I don't think they have a clue!!!! JMHO

what about the articles ms sportsman this month last month and the one before . internet nothing . ppfffftttt
That being the case then the lake should be closed from Feb till May so what brood fish are left can spawn.. PPPFFFFFFTTTTTTT!!!!
I'm over people posting pics and reports.Butla is everybodies lake,so go have fun.I'm on a mission to see if i can clean it out. Most don't care about the lake in the future, why should I.See yall there this weekend and everyone after that.
Get 'em while ya can. The only detriment to the lake will be finding a parking space. This hurricane blows some weather in and butla jumps 5-10 feet, it'll look like a ghost town. Those fish will hide in the grass and you'll swear she is fished out! Everybody will hit the next bite at Sardis, Enid or wherever. All the while in fished out butla, fish will be feeding and growing like they always have.
If you want to help the resource, build habitat and only take what you need. No since getting worked up over what the other guy is doing, as long as he is obeying the law. If you witness an abuse call the possum cops. There are always the greedy who will hoard limits. But that is usually offset by all the gewbers out there that can't catch a limit. (wb):biggrin
Go fishing, be safe and courteous, smile and have fun.
It's still a public lake that ain't that big. You can run but you can't hide
That's funny Shine Runner I have a cell phone and have never received a picture text from you telling me exactly which one of your local lakes is hot and were the best spot is on the lake. You are also correct we have some of the best crappie fishing in the country within a 100 mile stretch of interstate which attracts pressure from a four state area---Not Just Locals!!
You should see what a thread like this will do to Butla Saturday morning which is 8.2 feet below the rule curve and only has two open ramps. It will look like a Crappiemasters tournament at the ramp.
Parking will be very slim, if anyone is going they better get there early.
Well didn't have 17. We kept 6 probably caught 10 more or so. Should have been drowning minnows but we was doing our own thing I was running 300s about 30 ft behind the boat. Hitting chartreuse mostly. They shut down right after 9:45 on the cranks or they moved on me. Will be back next week in my new rig.
im so sick of hearing this same old crap one week post pics the next dont, and for the habit day that we did in july only 10 people showed up and 4 of them weren't even c.c members the lake was the lowest its been since i dont know when, I think it aint nothing but a bunch of people on here that want to take, take take and not give nothing back its either to hot or to cold then we blame someone else why their aint no fish get off you lazy a$$ and do something instead of sitting around and complaning
We need to do another habitat day
not asking no one to help put mine out for me, and i do have plenty out where you got to work to find them, and once their in the water there everybodies. Maybe one day we will run into eachother building stake beds
I like puppies.
Some people are just plain silly
That's true to a point. As long as the grass and weeds are green the fish will be in it for sure. But when the vegetation starts dying the fish will be forced back into open water because decaying vegetation uses up the oxygen in the decomposition process.

Gotta Work!
I fished Butla for the 2nd time in my life and the 1st time this year on Wednesday. Had the poles in the water and fishing a little before 7 and fished till 5. In 10 hours we managed 21 keepers and probably caught 75-80 fish. It was a great day in my book and I have never seen such healthy fish in August in my life. Heck, they looked like they were full of eggs. That being said I will be glad when it cools off a bit and I head a little farther down the road to the dink whole known as "Sardis" and take up the battle with those fish that I left off from this spring. Good luck to all this weekend and be careful cause it's going to be crowded.

Thank you for finally giving me my credit due!!!!
I think the problem is all you local guys going out every day catching all of my fish!!!! :)
Truth be told, I couldn't tell you how many hours I've fished sippi this year and how many fish I've caught but it's a bunch on both parts. That being said, I have not taken one single fillet back home with me yet this year. Y'all should follow suit. ;)
I am with Feelay if that lake jumps up 8-10 ft the fish will hit the grass on top of that this winter when all that grass starts dieing off and the lake fills up ,there wont be any spider rigging or crankbait pulling, the dead grass will be floating around so bad that you wont even be able run a boat in it.Bout the only way to fish is single poling. When that happens not a lot of fish get caught,so maybe butla will get a 1-2 yr. break.
I knew it would wind up being Stans fault lol......he has been eating all those fish that Speck caught.

Heres my two cents worth:twocents
What about all the magazine articles.....two this past month about Buttla.....what about all the press and national news coverage about the larger crappie tournaments etc. The word is pretty much out that there are four reservoirs in MS. with big crappie.....but thats nothing new....that news has been told over and over all my life. If I was going to blame it on somebody.....I would blame the Tournament fishermen and their sponsors. But if I catch some fish on any lake.....I am going to post pictures and tell what lake and what I caught them on. I won't give GPS coordinates.....but I will name the lake.
Well.....there are always the Tournament reports that hit the inter-net and the news media......such and such tournament held on this lake and then the list of winners and the weights etc....people see these and then think its a great lake to go fish. They also see the advertising leading up to these tourneys and again.....people read this and think its a great lake to fish. Everybodys got a hand in this....nobody is immune. The word has been out on the big four for years and years.....thats why they have all the fishing pressure that they do. You cannot just try to blame it on one group of fisherman.
I have an idea. Lets get Wannabe to write all of the fishing reports for the magazines. When folks read that they can fish all day and only have one fish to show for it, they wont bother going to the lake.:Rofl They will take up competition horse shoes or sumpthin!!!:biggrin
Good idea Speck, lol
