Don't your rods have a hook keeper just above the handle? I carry 8 or 10 rods most of the time without line tangles. Bottom hook in the keeper, top hook pulled up the leader and wrapped on the main line, the turn the rod and wrap around eyes like yikes was saying. No need for hair clips or anything else to keep up with.
I've done answered this question, now y'all shut up.

Been doing it this way for years. The key to it is to pull the hook out of the foam handle from the bottom and not yank it. It's barely in the foam (not buried) so it's no big deal. If your two hooks are to far apart to do this then pull the bottom hook down under the reel and back up to interlock with the top hook and take out the slack. Both hooks are secure.
What about if the weight is on bottom? What do y'all do then?

Going around the reel and joining hooks is superior in my mind because usually the weight rests against the fore grip with a Capps and Coleman rig and in transport does not bang against the rod itself chinking the graphite which can cause rod failure.
But I done tolt y'all to shut up.
