Cs, it's kind of a double edged sword. We've been thru 3 years of the ap classes and his GPA has steadily went down. My son is an above average golfer and we've been in communication with several colleges and coaches and they all say a higher GPA is better and more recognized than the ap classes. Especially when it comes to academic scholarships. Up until the ap classes started, my son was an A student. Last year, me and him both struggled to pass the 11th grade. I'm sure they help better prepare the kids for college, but they also make kids, that normally do well in school, hate school.
It's just like the AR program in elementary school. Both of my kids hate to read now. My youngest was elated when they told him Tuesday that he would only hafta read 4 books this year.

I hear what yer saying , minner. My girls, unless a miracle happens, won't have a chance at a athletic scholarship. I have two girls and they are totally opposite but they r both in the AP programs. The oldest has no issue and to honest doesn't have to work as hard as the younger one. When my oldest was in 7th grade she was invited by duke to take her act. She did better than I did when I was in 12. In talking w their recruiters they(duke) indicated they did look at gpa for their awards but also looked at course load and difficulty as well. I have to push the younger one to bring out her best. I know all our children will do well cause kids really are smart these days.

I try to make her realize hard work is the only way to succeed, however she is only lacking 1 credit to graduate...she worked her tail off last year with difficult classes so she cld float this year. They wld not allow her to walk in December, so we decided to let her go all year, so she wld not miss out on all the senior fun, n take easy classes to help max out her gpa. That is what I'm fussin about, as these classes are not necessary for her to graduate, but if she does not do well, it will drag down her gpa.

Whats Classes and Grades Got to do with it!!!! Its not the grades or how hard the classes is its who's in it and whos teachen it who can we impresss!!!!! We,You did the same thing now Did'nt Ya!!!! remember!!! Now ya do!!!!!! The answer to your question "Never" unless they run out of money!!!!

Just keep in mind if they go the ap route n get early credits, as my kiddo did, u will run into the same problem their senior year. Most MS high schools will not allow them to walk in December, so they have to take fluff classes, or take all day work release...n they only have so many fluff classes....n they can't repeat classes they have already taken. Doesn't leave a lot of options, and as in Bri's case, busted her butt since the 8th grade, n now she is kinda stuck. Take easy boring classes, or take classes she never did well in in the first place....needless to say, a scientist she will never be. And taking classes that were incredibly difficult for her in the first place (science) will no doubt bring her gpa down. N kinda pointless, as the classes that are left have NOTHING to do with her chosen profession, or for her major in college.
