Default Warning!!! "If u need car repair"

It finally happened, someone hit my car with a truck door, hard enough to leave a dent n take the paint off in two places...
I went n got an estimate at Desoto Collision Center on Elmore Road, they quoted me $994.39....
I then went to whom Jimmy Grey dealership referred me to..Folwer's Bodywork on hwy 51...the quote was
    $423.77....
I then called Desoto Collision to ask why such a difference, come to find out, I also had a small chip on the front of my bumper from a rock...Desoto was going to charge me for a whole new front end bumper, and my ground effects (no damage to my ground effects whatsoever.)
Fowler is fixing that small chip FOR FREE....
Obviously Desoto saw a woman, and thought I was a blooming idiot, and decided to seriously overcharge me. Or maybe they just do that to everyone, who knows.
In asking for an explanation, Desoto stated I shld bring my car back, n he wld explain it to me. Yeah right. Stay away from this place!!!! I heard the work is great by both, but obviously they take advantage when they can.

Unfortunately that seems to be a common practice.
About 6-7 years ago, my transmission went out in my old truck. I took it to a a large transmission shop in Cape. They gave me an estimate of $2500. For a rebuilt transmission. I called another shop 30 miles away. They gave an estimate for the exact same job for $1000. I went back to the first place and told them I was going elsewhere. They couldn't believe I would tow my truck 30 miles to save $1500. Then they dropped their price to match. I asked how they could reduce their price so much. They said instead of a three year warranty, they were only giving me one year!!! OK, for the $1500 I saved, I could put another transmission in it and still be $500 ahead!!!!

Another place I use is Ray's Collision Center on Shelby Drive. They are just west of Lamar Ave. on the south side.

Wife took her 2010 Toyota Camry to a Toyota dealer, not where she bought it, because the electric door locks weren't working correctly. They told her they couldn't reprogram it unless the ran a diagnostic on it. Then they told her that it would be $140. Gotta watch these places close, for sure.

The more I think about it, the madder I get. It's upsetting enough when your car gets damaged n u have to get it fixed, but to have to deal with dishonest businesses is really disheartening.

glad you caught on to them before it was too late. I always park at the furtherest point from a shopping centers front door to TRY and avoid the door ding issue, i'm sure you do the same. These days shopping centers cram vehicles as close as they can, plus their are so many fat arses out there who slam their doors against yours, like they can make more room that way. Our walmart parking lot has a slight slope to it, the other day i watched this slob unload his cart and he was too lazy in the 90 + degree heat to return it to its cradle. The dumbarse just left it resting against his piece of crap vehicle, then let it spin off as he drove away! Fortunately i caught it just before it hit someones car. Their is an ever increasing number of slobs who have no respect for other peoples property!

I got 3 estimates for replacing my timing belt when I hit 100K miles.

1.Dealership wanted $1400, this included replacing the water pump also, since it had to come off anyway.
    2. Area garage that specialized in my make of car wanted $800, no new water pump.
    3. Local garage that I had used with my previous vehicle wanted $400 including new water pump.

Went with #3, even though they were so much cheaper I was skeptical. 42K miles later not a hitch.
Pays to check around, and yes, Barbie, it makes your blood boil, but they will try it with a guy as well as a gal.
