E Z heard some horror stories on the early ones but noting to speak of on the later models. Started paying attention on some of the shows I have been watching and they seem to be on an awful lot of the boats up north and in Canada which used to be all Mercury.

Send me a PM, I can give you the low down on what several dealer/mechanics have told me about the flaws in them.

Weak lower units and bad power heads are the knocks I've heard. Don't know of that's true or not but most every big boat 225-250 hp I see advertised reads new lower unit and or new power head. ????

Agree with ya on the big motors, but I haven't seen a lot of 90's for sale or heard of problems with them. Not that I know many people with one.

The ones 150 HP and lower are incredible. I have a 60 on an 18' Triton TS18 (metal boat). Had it since '08. Sips fuel and oil. Runs about 32 MPH loaded. Run it WOT since it was new with no issues except an injector at 117 hours and just short of the 3 years warranty so it was covered. Have run in fresh and saltwater.

That 90 should be fine. The ones above 150 are the ones I see in the shop all the time and are prior to 2011. I know of several owners here with the lower HP Etecs and they all love them. Would own another one but if I need a high HP motor it would probably be a Yamaha SHO.

I sell them, and haven't had any problems. The early ones didn't have alcohol resistant fuel hoses, and the ethanol would deteriorate them, but that's no longer an issue.
