You would think with the money folks spent on fishing the big 4 lakes the core of engr. would allow a little more water in the lakes, maybe not full, but some more ..
I booked about 70 plus crappie trips just this spring on Grenada and Sardis myself, and thats just a very small amount of out of state folks fishing these lakes.
I haven't really done the math on how much these out of state folks spend while fishing, but you can bet is alot of cash.
Grenada rakes in the cash big time, it pays alot of salaries, and is a major shot in the arm for the business around the lake, shoot our guides buy minners by the pounds, little things like that add up to big bucks.
Another year like this one and I won't be booking many trips at all, and it's all over the coe water levels...kinda sad if you ask me..banghead

I would agree 100%. I'm up in northern desoto county. My family has a lake house up at pickwick, but I would much rather fish closer to home. I used to go to lakeview bout twice a week in the afternoons. Well it's shut down. Then I started going to down to butla for my quick trips cause it was , somewhat close to home. Now there's not enough water in butla. I went down to Sardis a couple of times but I gotta tell ya, I can be to pickwick in bout 15 mins longer than it takes me to get to Sardis. It's really not out of spite but rather the quality of the trip....my money is now being spent back in TN for fishing trips.

Hey cowboy, the same thing applies to duck hunting in Mississippi. During the duck season the hotels in Cleveland stay full with hunters, and they have to eat and buy gas and shotgun shells and so on. I have talked to our Chamber and the Mississippi Development Authority, they are not interested. These hunters I deal with bring in more money than 5 of these "festivals" they are so proud of.

Mississippi is number 1 in trophy crappie lakes and in the top 10 destinations for waterfowling and our state does a terrible job advertising it. I guess we need to get a "blues" marker at Grenada Lake.

Gary, the money brought in has nothing to do with the amount of water in the big-4. I wish there was more water in them too. Talk to your senators about the problem.

The corp makes their money generating power, not by out of state hunters and fishermen. If some of all that money were going into their pockets then they might see things differently. As it currently stands though...things wont change.

Doesnt apply to these 4 lakes, no power generation any where on these four rivers.

I agree it is sad at how much money crappie fishing generates and I fuss at the COE every year but they are quick to tell you they are not concerned with your crappie fishing, it is a flood control reservoir. The End.

I put this in another thread, why not promote the trips for May, June, July, and August. Good fish can be caught and the water levels and weather is always better, just a thought
