Default Plenty Of Lead For Jigs Now

I went to a local scrapyard and got 48 lbs of stick on wheel weights. They are a purer lead than the clip on weights. I melted them down, skimmed off the trash that came to the top and fluxed the lead twice with candle wax. I wound up with 46.5 lbs of pure lead ingots. Anybody need jig heads?

You got to watch the stick ons now. Look for a Z on them. That's zinc, not good for the fish. About as bad as copper.

The last 10,000 jig hooks I bought cost me 5 1/2 cents each with postage. My do-it mold will pour 8 at a time, 4 sizes. I only pour the 3 smaller sizes. Burnt finger tips on the mold placing hooks in. Mold cooling off to fast between pours. Make a long day of pouring. The last jigheads, 1000 each size, 6 sizes were 6.00 per 100 and 12.00 shipping. Seems cheaper to me.
I save the pure lead for split shots, pinch-ons, slugs and muzzle load bullets.

What kind of price did you give at the scrapyard?

I gave $1 a lb for the wheel weights. They are soft lead you can scratch easily with your fingernail. Thanks for telling me about the Z, I'll be on the lookout for that.
The way I have it figured, I can pour a 1/8 oz jighead on a sickle hook for 4 cents each. To me it's not all about the money, it's a hobby.
