tell ya, both the C & C 14 footers and the BGJP 14 foters will handle bout anything you want to handle. yeh, they'll bend the heck out of em and they may go where they want to go for abit but with a short line out, it'll give you less of a chance of the hook pulling out due to the bend they have. I've caught some 10 plus pound cats and some 5-6 pound Goos em and had no problems with them
as with everthing else i am A@# backwards i started out with 14 and dropped down to the 12 footers, I manly fish the big 4 and as muddy as they are you could use a 10 footer and not spook fish even in shallow water.
I started off with 14' BnM PST rods and then went to the 12 footers for trolling. I use them for my outside rods on my spread. I've landed a 45" muskie and dozens of catfish in the 6-15lb range on the rods and they did just fine. The 12' rods fit into my rod locker easier without having to worry about breaking off a tip. If I need more spread than these rods can provide then you will see me using planer boards. So I don't think the 12' rods are any sort of "step down" at all.
