off the motor and check for any fishing line that might be present, On my Honda I just used a adjustable wrench to take the prop off but I see "prop wrenches" and was wandering if I will need on for this motor since its a Mercury ? as I said might be dumb question, so go easy on me![]()

I just use a deep well socket and keep it in the boat.
You can use an adjustable or a socket just like you always did......no need for a prop wrench.

My 90 optimax manual says to torque the nut when you put it back on
Absolutely use a torque wrench. The problem with the plastic wrenches is that while the prevent you from stripping your prop nut off, they also keep you from tightening the nut to mfg specs. I keep the socket in the boat with a cheap ratchet for emergencies on the water but always use the torque wrench to tighten her up after servicing.
I think its and 1 1/8 or 1 1/16 socket.
