I have wondered what would make me put one on the wall, and now, thanks to Sheeter's post I have made up my mine. If it is over 3.lbs and if it wins a tournament, it goes on the wall.

Well I think you meant me in that post maj, lol
I like seeing people come in all excited about a animal that they have taken. I like seing the face and the eyes of those people as they tell their stories, makes for a great time and helps me when mounting animals, as I can try to put something into the mount that will help trigger their memories over the years to come. Sometimes details are forgotten over the years so anything added that can help recall that day a little better is worth it.
You hit the nail on the head Little Skeeter. You don't mount a fish for other peoples benefit, you do it for yourself. So each case is different.
I have a few mounts in my own home, not a lot cause I dont have time to mount my own stuff, but hope to one day, lol.
I will get into fish eventually, but I just dont like painting that much to be honest. I can do it, its just time consuming to do it right, and I dont do things half arsed!
Key thing is take it to the best taxidermist you can find, yes it will cost a bit more, but trust me you will enjoy it more and for a longer period of time if you pay more for the best. I have seen way to many that were not correctly cleaned and or prepared and they started looking bad within a year or two. Done right they will last a lifetime as long as you take care of them.
Really nice mount. Where did you have that done?
Your eyes are bigger than your scale! And they shrink in that livewell for sure!!
OLD FISHERMEN NEVER DIE, THEY JUST SMELL THAT WAY!!
Would have to be over 5 for me but i plan to start taking my 2 grandsons this summer and if one of them catches a 3+ it will get mounted.
I think a trophy is in the eye of the beholder. If its a personal best, and YOU like it, mount it. Sometimes the memory of the day is more important that the size or weight.
Any 3lb + fish is a real trophy, but I should have mounted the 2 3/4 fish I caught this weekend because it represented a GREAT day on the water with friends!!! He ate good though!!! LOL. I have a 4 1/4lb fish on the wall now from Butla. 22" long male I caught in the spillway on a minner in 96. He's a brute, but prolly never catch another that size. 3+ on the wall for me!!! I have filleted some 3's since I caught the big one, but I'm ready to get a few more mounted for a display
