Basically that changes the motor to and from Auto Pilot to Advanced Auto Pilot.

When you record a route, the ipilot remembers the route as GPS points. Then when you retrace the route, a side wind can blow you off track and then the unit will correct itself, just like in the autopilot version where the "N" has a circle around it. Because of that, I don't use the recording feature. Like "G" said, hold the autopilot button down for three seconds, until it beeps, then you use a compass coordinate, instead of GPS.

I thought in advanced auto pilot, the GPS puts points about every 20' in front of your heading, and the cruise control adjusted for the wind and speed, and trys to go straight from point to point. In regular auto pilot, you use a compass heading, but you have to compensate for wind drift, unless you have the speed set high enough to stay on course. I thought the advanced auto pilot had the circle around the N. Sounds like I got it backwards, or do I?

You have it right! I have found that the compass driven a-pilot works better.
