This is stewpit. But you know me, I just lurvs me some stewpit.
If you had a chance to design a rod for spider riggin, single poling and casting, how would you build one?
- I wouldn't. They are really hard to build. I'd find one and buy it.
Is there a perfect rod out there?
- No. And this is such a stewpit question, that I've considered printing it, having it redone in caligraphy and framing it.
I know I like the Capps & Colemans for spider riggin and the Sam Heatons for single poling and I use a Kistler for casting.
For example, my Kistler rod has the perfect action, but the handle is almost too big.
- OK den.
The Capps & Coleman rods, in my opinion, needs to be a tad stiffer. Not like the PST's, but just a little more back bone.
- Aite den. The C&C would not be a C&C without it's very light action. They are not for every one, nor for every situation.
Is price a factor in your decision on what rod to purchase?
- Yes. If I have that price and want it, I buy it.
If the rod was made In the USA, would this influence your decision to buy one?
- I prefer a USA rod, but I will not pass over a chinese one if that's what I want.
What would be a decent warranty in your eyes?
- I expect a 1 year warranty. Anything longer is gravy.
Would you pay more for a rod if it had a better warranty?
- No.
These are just a few questions I would like some serious responses on.
- Got'ne more? I'm bored.
As close as I've gotten to perfect is the Sam's Super Sensitive 12'. Spider rigs great, Beautiful single pole rod and it will cast a jig and a float. Only place it falls down is the rear portion of the handle is a bit long for casting.
Second closest is a pair of 12 footer Tony Edgar jig poles. Will handle cranks, spider rigs, casting and single poling. Action is a bit stiffer compared to Sam's, but only slightly, which allows it to handle a crank, but limits distance with a jig and cork slightly as well. Makes up for that with a slightly shorter rear handle, but still needs to be shorter.
Wannabe...
