Default HB Side Imaging vs HDS Structure Scan...

A while back when I was researching HB SI and HDS SS... I ran across these images. It is a pretty good comparison in the images. I don't believe there is THAT much difference in the two if you know how to use it and set it up correctly. You have to get the settings right on both units for it to work right. Okay you HDS guys.. Post up some images for comparison. I have about 800 HB side image snapshots I can post but I have seen very little real world HDS screen shots. Lets see em.. Not sure why yall are holding on to them.

I am convinced from my research that HDS beats HB in the DI category and might have a slight edge on the side imaging but that has yet to be proven to me since real world images are scarce to say the least.

These seem very comparable... The next group of pictures look bias to me

These pictures seem bias. They chose to show the 800khz HB DI. The 800 khz DI on the HB is not great.. The 455 khz DI is much better. Take a look. You notice they pick the worse HB DI to compare to the Lowrance HDS.

    HB 455khz

seems like a bit of marketing/advertising going on. Who sponsors that site the pics came from, or who advertises the most on it? All the pics are great, but the HDS does seem sharper/clearer images, but could be the difference in freq. I'm still learning on this stuff.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Zack, was the factory setting on yours at 455 or 800? just looking at mine and yours, mine must be at 800. the 455 shows more of a real feel look of things

Jimp - I am not real sure.. I just got them from doing a google search for pictures. They are pretty neat but I am sure they were used for marketing. It looks like a pretty good comparison though. I have seen others do a comparison and they were really poor. They didn't have their settings dialed in good so of course one looked better than the other...

DD - My 898 took better images on 800 khz... For some reason my 1198 takes better images on 455khz. The 455 khz is great for DI also but I hardly ever use DI. The default should be 455 khz.

    Pm back at ya torch...

Speed is the biggie.... The range you scan is next... If looking for fish you don't want to scan too wide. Next is sharpness which I usually have on low or medium... Sensitivity and contrast I don't mess with much.

I change my speed all the time...
