Loosen the pump and turn the discharge nozzle to the 10 or 2 o'clock position. If it's on top of the pump, it's keeping it from priming. Changing the angle of the nozzle will fix it no matter where its located now. Some pump manufacturers recently sent out a notice about changing the angle of the discharge nozzle on new boats with this problem.

I have had airlock a few times. I can go to the back of the boat while the pump is running and usally rock the boat real good a few times and it will get the bubble out. Usually only happens in rough water.

Good tip BRG. Never thought about that before but rotating the pump slightly will decrease the initial lift and might just do the trick all on it's own.

The throw it in reverse trick, while the pump is running, will work 90% of the time if you don't wanna rotate the pump, or your impeller isn't slipping on the pump shaft.

the way mine is located i may not be able to turn it any. gonna give it a try anyway.
