    Default Braid Verses Mono

    Braid Verses Mono

I started a new thread so as not to trash up the other one looking for braid.
    My question is "WHY"?
I here of folks that use braid cause of strength and all but I havent seen the need for it. Guess I have my head stuck in the sand or something.
I have also heard folks running out over 100 feet of line when pulling cranks, are they running braid? Yesterday with 60 of line out I was bumping bottom in 12 FOW, havent fished this summer with more than 90 out. I go by the Bandit chart and use 10 pound mono, charts on the money as far as I can tell.
Be interesting to hear the goods and bads. Thanks

It really depends on the kind of fishing and type of water. If I'm dipping brush or timber, braid all the way!!! Especially if the water is stained or dirty. Spider rigging in stained or dirty water, braid works well as does mono. In lightly stained to clear water, I use clear Vicious co polymer. I have definitely noticed fish can see braid in clear water. I've learned the hard way about clear water fishing. Cranking, I use Hi Vis Vicious line for the stretch. I don't think mono or co polymer line rips cranks out if their mouths like braid will. JMHO

Braid will run deeper with less line out. You can tell a big difference on the poles as well. The poles will vibrate like crazy with braid. That lets you know a lot as well. If the bait is running right or hitting bottom etc.

Exactly Brad. Cause it you have Mono on and you get some grass on the Crank, most times you can't tell. With Braid, you see the rod tip vibrating so you can tell if the hooks have trash on them. Just be careful reeling in fish, TAKE YOUR TIME since braid has no give at all, you'll pull a few fish loose

Braid causes some problems too like tighter tangles and it's hard the get your line tight when you're putting your poles up. The reason I know that is because I use it. I use hi vis 20/6 when pulling cranks. Numerous times I have gotten hung on a stump and straightened a hook out and gotten my crankbait back. Be sure to leave your drag loose or you may loose a pole.

Braid. I use it for two reasons. I fish deeper lakes, especially when walleye fishin and the braid does run deeper than mono. The second reason is that it holds up to abuse much better and the suns UV rays don't affect the integrity of the line. I've used both types of line, and I don't think I lose any more fish with braid than I do with mono. Braid also amplifies the tip action, or when a bait has a really small fish or the crank is fouled, the lack of tip action let's me know to check that rod. JMHO

BTW, I use 10/2 Tufline. Going to a larger line next time for the reasons Scott & Maj. mentioned. If you run your drags loose with the clicker, you can pull your cranks out of stumps, stake beds, etc. without breaking rods. I know Creek uses 30/8 on Greers to pull cranks out of the timber.

Come to Greers and pull with mono and your Bandit box will be empty when you go home.
