I had a great time and those Butla fish are brutes. We weighed our biggest 7 for yesterday before we cleaned them today and they weighed 14.50 after being on ice 24 hours

I really can't say anything nice here about the fish being taken so I will avoid that part, other than saying I hope the warden can sleep tonight.
On the other hand, congrats to all the winners and glad y'all had fun.
I imagine the gubment views it as us using public resources for monetary gain. We weren't just fishing for dinner, we were fishing for money. Therefor they want us to donate our gain (fishes). It wouldn't have been a big deal to me if we just had known about it on the front end.

To much discussion over a trivial issue. If you needed the danged fish that bad you shouldn't have paid to enter a tournament, you shoulda went to the grocery store!!!!!!!
Every body I saw had a good time and caught some very nice fish. LET IT GO. DANG!!!!!!
By the way, it was great meeting everybody there today. Super Nice bunch of folks!!!!
The gw or park ranger goofed today . A permit is NOT required on any state or coe lake for a fruit jar tournament unless its a club with bylaws and board members putting it on.
Look guys, the COE Ranger was just doing what he was told. Turns out the Park Manager, head man at Butla, has a lot on the lake and thinks he owns the lake. Yes we are supposed to have a permit the way I understand it, period. WB has not spoken up here and I think he may be a little embarassed by this but in his defense he has inquired about said permit with NO respponse from the COE at some point.
Life is to live and learn, the park ranger was writing down weights and taking pics, wont surprise me for our little tourney to be written up in the quarterly COE publication. I sat by the ranger and he said his piece and left us alone, nice guy just did his job.
As far as ES's ticket, well it is what it is. Boy went home and washed his boat with acid without putting any gloves on and burnt his hands, nuff said.
We really dont need to be griping about these kinda things, we need to find out how to make em run smoother. Reckon how they knew we were gonna be there, might have been reading the forum huh? With that being said reckon how his attitude will be next time we are there, I would like for it to be a good attitude and our lives be a little easier.
I heard the comment that we just didn't have to come back to Butla no more, what a dumb ass comment. This lake is home to some of the thickest crappie in the mid-south and I for one dont want to see us walk away from this lake.
It was a GREAT DAY, weather cooperated, WE WEIGHED IN 7 KEEPERS, met some great people, visited with some ole freinds, all in all a good day.
Sorry for the long post but thought some of this needed to be said, 24 boats!!!! OUTSTANDING!!!!!
Mississippi Slab tipped em off after Sat went on his rant about MCC tourneys.
Just kidding.
Funny story......about a year ago I got a ticket at Hernando point for not displaying the tag for the boat launch. I had put my three dollars in the envelope and put the tag on my rear view mirror. Launched the boat and took off across the lake before realizing that I had left the bag off hooks I had just bought on the rear deck of my boat and they had blown away as sped across the lake. I headed back to the ramp, beached the boat and headed to RJ's to buy more hooks. It was a nice day so I had the windows down and having left my boat tied up next to the ramp with all my gear in it I was in a bit of a hurry to get to the store and get back to my boat so I was speeding a bit and all I can figure is that the tag must have flown out the window at some point cause when I got done fishing that evening and got back to the truck I was surprised to find a ticket on my windshield and my tag was gone. The thing is, the ticket did not have my license plate number on it anywhere and it was made out to someone I have never heard of. There was nothing on the ticket identifying either me or my truck. I never paid it and it has been about a year now and I have not received anything in the mail and I have been back to Butla a few times and nothing has been said about it.
was the winning fish/stringer caught on cranks or minners? anybody know?
Well said Rees!!!!
I ain't read every thing in this thread yet on account of fishing with g3t all day and putting up with 23 boats full of Gewbers on Saturday, I'm about full up of ignert for the weekend, but....
Ranger Rick did us a huge service Saturday. Somehow the lake folk got wind of the FJ and while we were fishing everybody in uniform up there was in the phone with each other all day. So the lake manager sent the ranger out there to set us straight. Now tue fine for not having a permit is substantial and if had wanted to, he could have turned my smiles to frowns in a big ole hurry.
After y'all left, I talked with the guy for a long time and he was nice as could be about it and gave me all the info to be in the up and up next year, which I will follow through on going forward.
Hate everybody had to give up their 7.....especially me. Y'all got any idea how long it'll take me to get 7 keepers again? Lol.
True that I had attempted to get a permit last year but never heard back on it. After that I had lost the contact info about it so I had just let it go. That ones on me.
Anyway, go easy on the Coe. They got rules and I didn't follow them and they could have taken me to the wood shed about it but were good enough not to.
Had a big time this weekend fellas. And special thanks to Yikess, Les Smith and Bandit for donating the Bandits. And to John Harrison for turning around and handing them to the boys. Made their day.
Wannabe...
Thanks for the clarification WB.
Comgratulations to the winners.
I felt like a winner just being there.

Got me lone of them parking tickets a Copland years go for having it on the mirror backwards. Had to go up to the office and get scolded and bout a annual.
Permits ARE required for any type "tournament" on a corp lake. MCC has been doing it since their birth and Mid-South before that. I don't agree with returning fish back to the lake for several reasons. Reasons are: Crappie can't take being livewells like bass can and i8f you catch them legally and they are legal length, 150 fish won't be noticed. Hell, 1000 won't be noticed. They need to have a bass and striper tournament with biggest weight winning, no limit in numbers.
Well said in that book you wrote Rees.
Dang, didnt know my partner was so long winded, guess he cant get a word in edgewise when we fishRofl
Really enjoyed meeting you and visiting with ya yesterday.[/QUOTE]
