Stop using C&C rigs when it is windy/choppy. When the pole goes up and then back down the egg weight goes down faster than the minnow/hook does and tangles.

went to grenada yesterday and spider rigged. it was windy and very choppy, and we had a terrible time with our rig.......similar to a capps and coleman rig. the line on our bottom minnow hook kept twisting and tangling with the egg sinker above it, on most of our poles. any one have this problem, and how is it corrected, thanks.

If you were bouncing up and down alot, when you went up, the minner would stay up as the sinker dropped down faster and below the Minner. It'd get hung up in it. Guess you had around a foot or more between your minner and the sinker so you had plenty of slack line. If that happens again. Just use a jig head n no shirt instead of just a hook. It'll drop down faster and not get hung in your Sinker

thanks sat and dd, thats what i thought..............what is best to use? is a 1 1/2 ounce or 2 oz sinker on the bottom and 2 hooks tied above ok? or is something else better?
You might want to go to smaller weight. I usually use 1/2 oz. crimp on weights from Earl Brink at www.showdowntackle.com. If you decrease your weight size, you have to decrease your speed. If you are slowtrolling as slow as you can, you are going to fast. Let the minnow work for you.
1.5 to 2.0? Way too much. Less weight, less tangles.

Everything is more difficult when it's very choppy. But you were asking what would reduce tangles. Best solution is to go with the wind to reduce bouncing and either use a different rig or reduce your weight to reduce tangles and to keep your bait from moving up and down as bad. Think about it You're using a 2 ounce weight and take a 2 foot waive that raises your deck 18". A 2 ounce weight is going to rise that full 18" and when you come down, is going to immediately fall all 18" and repeat with the next wave. A lighter weight...say a 1/2 or 3/8 is goingt o rise the full 18", but fall less because the boat will fall quicker than the weight, so when the next wave hits and the boat goes up, it has less distance to travel to the top of the rise. In turn, your baits will travel vertically less.
Class dismissed.
