    Default Blue Crabs

A'ite, the vacation house is rented.....who needed a stinking Z22 anyhow, right? Ended up with a house with a pier on the bay in Gulfport. Joint says crab traps included. So....how do I go about catchin' 'em, cookin' 'em and eatin' 'em. ?

I did a week down in Biloxi on the bay and the fella that ran the place ran traps for us and cooked up a mess a blue crabs that absolutely were the best I've ever eaten. I remember something about not eating a certain part of it, as it was said to be potentially poisonous, but man were they fine.

I got ya covered Bro on this one. Get you some Turkey necks for bait in the traps. Just thrown them out and wait. Now for cooking them.

    3 gallons of water
1 big bottle of liquid crab boil
    2 bags of crab boil
    4 lemons cut in half
3 heads of garlic cut in half
    1 cup of salt
    1/2 cup ground red pepper
2 pounds of andouille sausage cut into 2 inch chunks
3 or 4 FRESH ears of corn, shucked and broken in half
3 pounds of new red potatoes

    Real simple to cook.
Just bring to a boil and toss in the potatoes for about 5 minutes, then add the corn and sausage and cook til the potatoes are fork tender.
Remove the potatoes, corn and sausage and add the crabs. Cook for 8- 10 minutes depending on the size of the crabs
I use this same recipe for Shrimp and/or crawfish as well.

Not sure it's poisonous but the gills are bad for ya. They look kinda like feathers when you top the top off the crab

Ain;t much meat on them man. For that many folks, you'll 20-25 or so crabs plus the taters corn and sausage. You can also catch them at the piers pretty good this time of year, just make sure to throw the females back that have eggs on them

I had them in high school and really never cared for them since.
