Default Long time listener...First time caller

I get on this site everyday but rarely post. Well I gues just by reading what all of you gewbers have done has rubbed off. After a wonderful day of catching 30+ 9" crappie at Sardis yesterday and 0 keepers, I was pondering on how I need to start fishing the east end of the lake more an think of all of my options. Well I'm rounding 240 starting to think about supper when some nice feller pulls up next to me and says I need to look at my trailer tire. I peek over into the passenger mirror and see my tire is looking a little wobbly. I cross all 4 lanes of traffic, kinda like Frogger, and get in the emergency lane. About this time the tire starts smoking real good. I decided to ease up a little further where I knew I could pull off of the shoulder and not get smoked by an 18 wheeler doing 70 in the right lane. Well as soon as I ease off of the asphalt...Kurplunk!!! The tire falls off and the trailer hits the ground. I figured this would be as good a spot as any to stop. Well after callin 159 people and 1 of my buddies coming to help me, the only thing I could do was call a flatbed wrecker. Well needless to say, I got home about 11 last night (would have got home at 1030 but the tow truck driver had to tell me everything Ineeded to do to fix it 6 different times). Long story short... the hub blew out and destroyed everything inside. I grease them regularly but I guess i need to pull them off every once in a while and check em. I'll try to post a pic if I can.The End

Hey G......what's the next available Gewber number? LOL.

Welcome to the site GTuck...ain't but 2 kinds of trailer tires in this whole world...them on the trailer and them on the trailer that are about to come flying off any minute now. Sure am glad you spotted the trouble and killed your speed before the kerplunk happened.....In the left lane of 240 at about 70 mph is exactly the worst spot on this planet for it to happen.

And another thing....sounds like you need a higher class of friends....post some more here and I'm sure the next time you need some help none of us will come running, but we'll be able to make fun of you about it for weeks on here. LOL.

You're right about the hubs though....there ain't but one way to know for sure what kind of shape they are in and that's to pull 'em and get grease up to your arm pits and visually look....Even then, that only tells you they are OK right then. 11 mile down the road from there is plenty of time to cook one off.

Wow. You fit right in around here. :D Hate that happened to you. That happened to a buddy a few years back, but it didn't completely fall off...happened after he replaced his bearings, races and seals...seems the kit had the wrong seals. Right OD, but ID was too big. Lost all his grease, let water in, etc. Definitely pays to check them every now and again. Think I'll check both of my trailers when I get home...

Well I store my boat at my Dad's and he's usually on top of doing everything for me. But when I called last night, hes said "yep, I 've checked/replaced every piece on every trailer, car, truck, etc, etc thats come into this driveway but that's the one thing I haven't done". I plan on going over to Serwic this afternoon and buy 2 new complete hub kits. I may go ahead and get 3 just in case this happens again.

Having a spare tire and hub assembly is a dang good idea, but that's beside the point.

    What's you're Dad's address? LOL.

Yep would've been real nice to have one last night

Well you got an ongoing Jeep and a 72 Bronco project in front of you so it may be a while. And my 1 buddy that showed up owed me for helping him move a couple of weeks ago so I guess what goes around, comes around. I'm just glad he showed up so 1 of us could watch the surroundings while the other messed around with the trailer.

Heck, I don't mind waitin' for free mechanicin' work....ask anybody if you don't believe me.

That one buddy must of been the only one whose old lady was mad at him so he prolly didn't have anywhere else to go.

G, be smart and shell out the extra $$$ for the extra hub. I have one on my trailer and thank the Good Lord, I haven't had to use it. I was in the habit of having my trailer serviced every year but Obama put the skids on that. Now, when I leave going out of town, I pump the grease to it.

She didn't give him a choice. Said since I helped him, he needed to get his butt out there and help me.
