    Default Jack Plate Issue

I'm wanting to put a jack plate on my boat but had couple people tell me it wouldnt be a good idea that if I hit something at speed that the engine might hurt me or come off into boat! I want one incase I hit stumps and stuff to lessen the hard lick off the foot. What are ya'll suggestions?

A good jack plate will neither hurt nor help if you hit a stump. The purpose is to give a wider range if adjustment in the depth of the motor and to set back the power unit changing the leverage point of the force and to put the prop in slightly cleaner water.

Jack plates will not allow the motor to swing up on impact.

Yes...they will...you get the right jack plate....I know what you are saying but they do make a jack plate for motors with tilt and trim that will allow the motor to kick up. I've seen them. Thanks for answering though...appreicate it.

The motor should do the exact same thing on the jack plate as it does on the transome. How big of boat and motor Kenny?

I know several that have them... We call them "kick" plates. If you hit something hard enough the motor will come in the boat with you. Had a buddy total a motor like that.

Yes, they are out there, and they work pretty good. My suggestion would be to not be running that hard when you think you might hit a stump.

I just got a F&F boat and having a 50 Tohatsu installed Monday. Yeah...they make a plate of some sort I guess like the guy said a "kick plate" that will let a motor with T/T kick up if you hit something. But like 123 said, they might be dangerous if you hit something at full speed the motor may come over in boat and hit you! Trying to weigh the pros and cons of getting one.

OM I had a '16 Polarkraft with a 40hp w/Et&t.. hit a stump at 'Butla that bent the hydraulic piston and LU shaft.... Anything that lets the LU release energy is gonna save you money in the long run.. Shouldve trimmed up and idled wouldve saved me a bunch..
