Default anobody know what a "clutch hog" is???

I just had some work done on my Yamaha 50 HP two-stroke. There was an issue with my lower unit. Since I used a non-certified service dealer, I am now beginning to wonder if they had any clue as to what they were doing. I was charged $700 for this "clutch hog", which included a couple of steering cables I think. The repair seemed to solve the problem, but only for one trip out.....

Also, any recommendation as to a reputable Yamaha service provider in the Memphis area?? I am only seeing Memphis Boat Center on Watson out off 240.

Thanks in advance if anyone has an opinion.

Performance marine in Sardis is a Yamaha dealer and service center. They are slow but do good work.

Man i hate to hear that. I live in N E Ar. and know what its like to find a boat mech. My experience is to make sure they got a place to run the boat, not just in a tank as the motor willl act different when put under a load. When i had motor problems i took mine to a place in Jonesboro that said he could fix it and when i got it back it wasnt fixed, so now i use Ernies sales in Ellington, Mo. It's a haul but when i pick it up it is fixed.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. They might have said Clutch Dog. Whatever they said, it should have lasted more than one trip. I would certainly talk to them about it. If you know what you are doing it is a fairly straight forward, however time consuming, repair to do. The primary indicator of Clutch Dog problems IMHO is the inability to keep the engine in gear. Some of this might be attributable to misadjusted cables, but in my experience it will usually be the Clutch Dog AKA Murphys Law. I have worked for certified and non-certifed dealers and I would do the same quality repair regardless who I worked for.
