Why do you want to take the ram mount off?

I want to take the 898 off my boat while I am going down the road to keep the vibrations down and then not leave on my boat while I have it in my shop, I dont like to leave on my boat incase someone breaks in to my shop and they want that stuff (electronics)

My 997 comes off my ram mount with two thumb screws and the ram mount stays on. The 898 is the same.

What satdoc said. I just undo the side screws, plop the covers on and put them in a little Plano protector.
