It will work but you would have a lot better control with it on the front. It would make it easier to manuever.

I am rigging up a small, jon boat for some shallow water spider rigging and single poling. My existing trolling motor is not the foot control type. Is there a big downside to mounting the trolling motor on the side of the boat next to my pedestal instead of at the front of the bow? Didn't know if it would be more difficult to maneuver the boat... Thanks!

I have a friend who fishes with it that way and likes it. Keeps it away from the jigs.

It'll be fine.maybe a slight yaw at speed but no biggie when your scooting spot to spot. Bonus is it's more comfortable to single pole with and keeps motor a few inches further from the target.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
