Default What you guys think of using a SI FF on the trolling motor ??

I have been waiting on the 788ci HD DI that has everything but SI and found a place that has the 798ci HD SI DI for a couple hundred more. I am not sure that I want SI on the front the way I will be moving the motor around, but I really dont know and so I am asking those that have more experience with this.

    thanks

I have one and do not like it for the reason you mentioned. You also run the risk of transducer damage from impact.

You can talk to EZ. He has the 798 on the front with the td on the back of the boat. The only way it would work is if the tm direction never changed.

I thought for SI to work properly you needed to be going 4 to 5 mph......if thats the case then it wouldn't be any good on the TM
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

SI works great at all speeds. In fact, I think it is better at slower speeds as long as you adjust your chart scroll speed to match your boat speed it works great.... But I wouldn't like SI on a trolling motor. Just my 2 cents

i have one on the trolling motor, its alright ,u have to slow your chart speed way down because your going slower.the reason i have one their was because i was wanting di their and the regular 800 and 900 series didnt have di so i went with a 997.

Good move... I had my 798 TD on the TM and the SI was useless to me so I moved it to the back and now it's great, even tho it has the DI it didn't do what I wanted it to do on the front. I use the US2 on the front with an A/B switch, since I have a stick steer. I can go the correct speed when looking for places switch to the US2 if I want to, which I don't very often, but can. I have a 788 at the back seat with the TD on the back as well, this is for pullin so I can have the lake maps. Gotta be careful putting 2 TDs on the back with one of them an SI. Mount it as low as you can get it on one side of the boat, like down toward the bottom of the boat, and the other one as high on the transom as you can get it on the other side of the boat. Thay way the second one won't be in the way of the SI. Learned this the hard way..
