Timer is more better. This time of the year, I set it for as low an on time as it will allow. Heck, with this water temp, you can throw 'em in a bucket and they'll live for a day. Spring I set it about once every 5 minutes. Even in the summer, I set it for about 50% on and 50% off....the fish are gonna keel over anyhow for the most part, but I want that motor to crank when I hit the key and dang the fish.
