    A fishing question from Wannabe.

A'ite, so today I took off to my spot at lunch. On a lark, I tried a tube of a color I normally don't chunk. Had my standard on the bottom jig, which is normally where the fish have been eating, and the odd color on top. Now, when I've doubled my standard color, the fish normally take the bottom jig 3 to 1. So, out I chunk....bang, fish on top. Next cast, fish on top. Third cast....yep. OK, now that's weird I says to myself and just to prove I know what color they really want, I reversed the colors....now odd color on bottom and the one they really want on top. 4th cast, fish on bottom. 5th, 6th and 7th. OK, I says to myself....guess I'll put 2 of the same on and just get slap dab crazy.

Check my box and I've got exactly 3 more of that color. Used one to finish out my double odd colored rig. Next cast, snag and broke off both jigs. CRAP! Ok, retie...next cast.....yep, broke off the bottom jig. 3rd cast, snagged behind me and ripped off the tube. LOL....that's bad luck right there, I don't care who you are.

So I fished the next 1/2 our switching and swapping through all my colors...of course I didn't have any more of that color and only 1 or 2 anywhere close. Ended up catching maybe 3 or 4 more fish period in the next 40 minutes.

So, the question is.....how often do you find that color is actually that critical and one so clearly out performs another. It's pretty rare that I find that it happens to me, but just like today...every now and then it just flat out matters.

Needless to say, I'm now the proud owner of 625 brand new odd colored tubes for that day 17 months from now when they just won't eat anything else.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.

Usually when I'm spider-rigging with 4 poles I will start out with 4 different colors hoping the crappie will tell me what color they want at that time. And lots of times they will show a liking to that 1 pole with that color and then again sometimes they will bite any and all colors or none at all. So yes it has happened to me too, I think color does matter at least some of the time.

If ya had a color selector it would probably tell you that the color you are using is the most visable in the color spectrum of that particular water.
