Got a call yesterday at 3PM from my Dad saying he was having chest pains. Off I go to the ER. Got him in and they put me in chairs. 20 minutes later they let me back and he's white as a sheet and pulse ox is low 60s. Doc says he's refused intibation and no heroic measures. Said, he's right on the line that if he goes down, without a tube there will be nothing he can do. Dad agreed to a bipap mask which is a deal that goes over the face and when it detects your inhale, it forces air into the mask giving you a deeper breath. I called the family and the church thinking I'd probably be making "arrangements" in about a half hour from the way he was struggling to breath. Well, the mask did the trick and in 15 minutes he's back into the 80s. Another 30 minutes and he was making plans for this weekend. An hour later, he's telling us we should all go home.
Dang, that boy is almost as frustrating as me sometimes.
Anyhow. They put him in CCU last night and he had a decent night but they still have the mask on him. Test show no heart attack and I'm hoping they'll remove the mask and put him in a step down room sometime today.
Ya'll put him on the prayer list. You couldn't tell it from how often he stays at the hospital, but it's really the last place he wants to be and this will be the third year running he's spent the better part of Christmas break in there.
Wannabe...
