Dern. Had to be a bad feeling. I wouldn't fault him for it though RDG. If he had no local contact, prolly about all he could do. Now, if he had called to say he was out of minners, that'd be another story.....unless they were biting really good...then it'd be understandable.

Ive been there. Thank the lord for google on the blackberry. Had to find a local marine shop to tow me off the Ark. river. Thats a bad feelin to be in current, with barges, no outboard, and TM dyin fast... Kinda puts ya in a panic...

I used to run all over Florida without a GPS or cell phone in boats powered with questionable equipment when I was growing up. I guess if you've done it long enough, you at least remember to turn around and pick a strong landmark to find your way back home.
Anway- a word of advice for folks. Leave your local ramp when it's still dark and get a handle on what towers surround the lake. They're easy to see and you can often remember that your ramp is in line with the third tower on the left or the one with the red light and so forth. It can really help out if you're running in the dark. To be honest, I used my incredible navigating towers for years to locate duck holes at night. My dad thought I was some sort of navigational prodigy until I filled him in on my trick one day when we were completely lost in the fog.
