Cap'm, I wouldn't say any of them are easy to learn, but I'm an old guy. I learn something every time I put the boat in the water, be it the FF or the TM. I do know that being able to see where the creek beds or river beds, or the "flats" are on the FF is invaluable, and the additional ability of being able to see structure is great.

what Lowrance is priced close to the HB898 ? From the ones I have looked at, if you got with a hds7 and Lss1 it would add up to around 2 grand and the 898 I can get for 1350, I know the view is supposed to be better on the HDS but I dont have a SS now so I am getting an improvement no matter what I do
thanks

maj, if I can get the 997 for 1400 or the 898 for 1350 which way do you think I would be best to go ? Oasis has a " make offer " and will try to get it for 1400 since the price is 1444.95, just dont know what the big differences are in the 2 units other than 1inch screen
thanks
maachuu
Get the one with the bigger screen. You won't regret it.
