    Default TM question

Anybody ever fished with or heard of one of these?Minn Kota 80/EM - Freshwater Engine Mount Trolling Motor - 24v-80lb

Thinking maybe this would be another option to the terrova for me anyways.. It seems like it should work, or is the terrova\ipilot just THAT GOOD?

From what I have seen....the Terrova/I-Pilot is the only way to go. Now, that being said if I can talk my wife into letting me spend my daughters inheritance....I will get one. :D
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Well which model do you suggest. I haven't done a whole whole lot of reasearch on the blasted things, and what can I expect to be spendin for a 24v(only cause there's no more room behind my big honkin gas tank) 48' shaft, possibly the 70 lb if thats an option...But I'm sure the 50 would be just fine.

I'm gonna tell you da troof. Ya need a 36 if you expect to troll a whole day of fishin' if you've got a glass boat of 150hp or more. Maj can get away with it with a 24V but he's pulling a smooth K or more less than me. I get 3.5 hours if I'm careful. Looking into slappin' 2 more batts in there and wiring for 24V so I can go the distance.

What you want is a 101 with a 54" shaft...60" would be fine though. 80 would be OK as far as speed goes, but your batts are gonna give up like mine short of 4 hours. Into a headwind, you'll be looking at 3.

I'm gonna mount the 2 additional batts in the rod lockers. How much??? Well, Cabelas has them like this:

    80 - $1020 - $1140
    80/AP - $1230 - $1340
    80 w Ipilot pre-installed - $1380 (60" only)

    101/AP - $1450 - $1560
    101 w Ipilot pre-installed - $1550 (60" only)

Now, that's US2, which adds about $100 I think, and those are non-sale prices. They can be had cheaper. Then you got the used option....I got my 80/US2 with Ipilot for $900. But I'm pretty and a smooth talker....I don't see that working out for you though.

I'm talking about pulling 1.8mph and I thought your boat was something like 19ft with a 150. The 70 is not an option in Terrova. The 50 is, but that's a 12V. I'm guessing if you tried 1.8mph for cranks with 2 batteries wired for 12V, you'd probably only see the same longevity as me...probably less under most conditions. No matter what you get, go with the very largest (group 31 if possible) battery you can fit and the very best you can afford. Pulling cranks with these things chews 'em up pretty good.

Now, if you're only interested in spider rigging, then the 50# would be fine for that.

Mo don't make the mistake I did and get a shaft that's to short (48"). Mine will cavitate out of the water in a heartbeat when I'm fishing in the back by myself. With two people it's all good.

Yeah on grenada Saturday I kept the whole head outta the water 50% of the time... I'd def go with the 60" and Its not a bad Idea to get the 101. Heck if I'm gonna spend that much might as well go all out... And at that price, spend the extra hundo to get what ya need... WB, I may not be able to talk somebody outta it but my dad sure can... He bought my boat, motor, and tandem axle trailer for $1,000 under what the motor itself would bring on NADA...
