and away from their shops, I can finally post this.
When was the last time you checked the water in your batteries? I checked mine Wednesday. Keep in mind that I installed mine in late April or early May and you know I haven't fished a whole bunch....lucky to get 4 or 5 trips a month. Guess how much water it took to top off mine after such little use, although admittedly, rough duty completely draining them several times? 2 Group 31s and a group 29. 1 GALLON of Distilled water. Dern, them things chew it up with heavy discharge and charge. The 29 only took a little bit, but the 31s were bad thirsty.
While I'm on maintenance.......when was the last time you checked the torque on your outboard mounting bolts and the jackplate if you have one? Just a thought, most people think if the mounting bolts snap, the motor falls off. Truth be told, they're 1/2 as likely to end up sitting in your lap if it happens at full throttle. The boat slows, but he motor is under full power and basically trips over the transom and walks up your boat. They do fail. My boat has had 1 set replaced (2 of 4 failed) and I've broken a set of rubber motor mounts on the on the motor itself. They're now solid instead of rubber.
BTW, just cause I'm only running a little 40, 50, 75, 90, 115 don't mean you don't need to check 'em. One of them itty bitty motors would be a whole lap full too.

On board battery chargers eat up the water cause you gewbers plug them in for months at a time.

Speaking of, I just bought my on board... Gotta install it next week
Dang I thought you was gonna call em all gewbers or Stewpit or just plain ignert while they were gone.
Thats why you should check the water in your batteries once a month. The water in a battery is there for one reason....It is on top of the acid ( sure it kinda mixes together when you pour the water in but in the end the water comes to the top) ....the water evaporates instead of the acid...that is if you have not lost all of your water, in which case your acid evaporates. If you add a lot of water like WB did....well after several times of doing that you will have a weak battery that will not provide the amp hrs. that it used to. To maintain full battery strength and maintain full battery life.....keep the water topped of regularly to keep from loseing acid.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
