Lower unit is worth 1k and the controls should bring 250 to 300. Cowlings bring good money also.

As you may know, my Merc bit the water the other day. I am looking at an older Yamaha 60hp 2cycle to replace it. 60 would be fine on my boat, but don't know much about them. This one is 10 years old, but used very little, new water pump, SST prop, mix oil with gas(not oil injection), controls and all. I can buy it for less than replacing the power head on my 75. Wonder what a broken 75 4 stroke is worth?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Thanks for the info. I would be happy to get that for it, then I could make the other purchase and hopefully not have the same problem again. Can't continue to pay a nickel each and sell 3 for a quarter. Craigslist and Swap Meet be the best place??
Ez go to Southeast marine and see what a pwerhead would run. I bought one for a 60hp 3 years ago for 1200 delivered to my store.

Sorry for your kablooey Gene. That blown motor is worth a lot more than you think if you have the patience to part it out or find the right buyer that wants to either rebuild or use for parts. L/U, Cowl, Pan, prop, controls, starter, flywheel, ECU...all valuable.
That said...the yammy 2 strokes have a very good reputation. The trouble is, on a 10 year old motor, I'm not sure it would have an ECU so you could get actual hours off of it and will be relying on the seller to be honest and accurate. You might be looking at a 10 year old motor with 25 hours on it or 2500. Big difference and both might look brand new. With any used motor, get a good mechanic to do a visual inspection and a compression test. You can also ask for a cylinder leak down test which is supposed to be an even better indication of compression. Assuming it all checks out, I wouldn't be scared of it if the price is right.
Here's some random links with some engine pricing:

The second dealer - Jacos buys "blowed up" motors at wholesale prices....that's always an option.

Should be no cons over a 2000 model Yammie. Had a 40hp 2000 model. Still the best motor ive ever owned.
Stick yo jig in there!
I've got a 1999 90hp yammie 2 stroke that I have had for 10 years and it is running strong. It is just a little cold natured getting it started but after that it fires as soon as you turn the switch.
