The counter reset button. If ya don't press the one i was using just the right way, it would reset to zero but not count the line going out. And when your operatin the boat by yourself, ya tend to get in a hurry and not notice things till at least 70 ft or so of line is out.

Best ones to use are Diawa LC17's. They cost a little more but they are more reliable and faster retrieve!

The design of the OKUMA is such that the spool shaft disengages from the lock by sliding to the right side of the reel. You can see this by removing the cast control cap. If you leave the cap very loose so it will pay out witout much resistance, it will allow the spool to shift far enoug to the right to create enough gap for the line to slip behind the spool. Very aggrivating!!!!!! And almost impossible to fix on the water while trying to manage the boat and watch the lines.

The trouble is, if you tighten up the cast control cap, enough to overcome this, the resistance of the bandit will not pay out line without manually pulling the line out.

The trick to whip this OKUMA into submission is to leave the cap loose enough, disengage the spool and put the rod in the holder, but rotate the reel in the holder over on it's left side. The spool will be held closer by gravity and minimize the gap to protect the line. Not fool proof, but it does help.

I hate that too MO. That's why I switched to only catching 18" Crappie or better. Less measuring to do that way.
