Default I have now entered the 3rd phase of boat ownership

    The first phase is jubilation.

    Ths second is rigging.

The third phase is breaking and repairing. This the phase where nothing goes your way, but you gain all kind of riggin' experience. I have now been out in the boat 4 times. All 4 times something has dissappointed, broken, torn up, fell off or come up missing. Yesterday was no different. Unhooked yesterday AM and when I walked away, I glanced back and noticed soemthing hanging down from the bottom. Walked back and it's my Keel Shield. It's detached along the last 12" and is hanging down. Not that big of a deal really, but when I looked at it last night, I noticed there's a hole right in the sweet spot where the boat would rest if beached fairly hard. About the size of a quarter. I tell you. I've installed one of these jokers...the right way.....and it's gonna take a herculean effort to get one off and get it cleaned up for another install......the right way. I'm guessing removal and clean up would be about 10 hours. Installation, another 3.

Not sure what I'm gonna do at this point though. Might just reinstall with 3M 5200 and go easy on the hard beaches and see if I can get away with it.

Just so's ya'll knows, the remaining phases of boat ownership are:

    4) Use
    5) Dissatisfaction
    6) Sale
    7) Acquisition

It usually takes me a good 8 months to get to step 5, but then again, step 2 only normally takes a couple of weeks, so I'm running behind with this one.

Daddy always said "a boat is just a whole in the water into which you pour money".

Onliest thing I can figure is the adhesive got brittle and that's why it fell off. I haven't used the concrete until yesteday at all and both the launch and recoverey were very gentle. Other times, I've used those stewpit mats at Grenada. I figure, the holes in that mat is what tore the hole in it. Prolly rolled up under on the back off and stuck in one of those holes when the boat moved backwards.

I could care less about the 200 to replace, it's the removal of the old one in 100 degree temps that chaps my back side. Litterally. My booty sweats a lot and chaps easily in this heat. LOL.

Better get about a gallon of MEK And a pack of fine Scotch Brite pads, that stuff will work pretty easy, wear safety glasses and rubber gloves.

I just know he keeps all that on hand for his regular chores. I heard he has "speshul" gloves.
